Early attempts at communication

The theme this week at i heart faces is Pets Only

From nearly a year ago. This was one of their first attempts at communication. Although it doesn’t look like it, this was Riley’s attempt at kissing the cat. Still, a year later, they can’t quite get enough of one another and are continually doing so in ways that the other clearly does not appreciate.

Riley is always trying to pick up/tackle/cuddle the cat. Unfortunately a lot of her cuddling involves holding the cat around the neck. Not ideal. Morgan, on the other hand is continually trying to get close to Riley’s head when she’s in bed. Also, less than ideal. Her attempts are met with opposition ‘get away!’ and there have been a few accidental scratches as well.

But still, at least now when Riley kisses Morgan, she does so without looking like she’s screaming and/or planning on inhaling the poor animal.

The cat, as always puts up with these antics admirably well.

Drama

The theme this week at i heart faces is Dramatic Black and White.

“Children seldom have a proper sense of their own tragedy, discounting and keeping hidden the true horrors of their short lives, humbly imagining real calamity to be some prestigious drama of the grown-up world.” – Shirley Hazzard

Bundled Up

The theme this week at i heart faces is Bundled Up. All about winter. Well, it’s Autumn here. It’s about 27 degrees here right now (81 F). So I’m a little light on the snow situation. I went through the archives in an attempt to find something from last winter. It was littered with pictures of sunny days. I live in Australia. I wish we had real seasons but we don’t. However, I did stumble along this gem:

Outtakes

The theme this week at i heart faces is hilarious outtakes. I’m not sure about hilarioius, but these are definitely in the ‘outake’ category’. The trouble was picking only five.

Little Girl Hands

The theme this week at i heart faces is hands on fun. My struggle? Getting the energiser bunny to stay still long enough for me to even have a hope of capturing those busy, busy hands. And in the end I was only able to get one of them. It’s a victory, trust me.

It’s amazing how there is nothing gradual about development in toddlers and babies. It only seems to happen in a great giant leap, that leaves you wondering where your baby has gone. Riley had one of those leaps this week. She says so many words and has started to string them together. She also looks taller.

She doesn’t have baby hands anymore, she has little girl hands.
