There’s an extent to which all three year olds love dancing, love looking at themselves and love performing in general. And then at a certain point as you are watching your daughter dance on an empty stage at the shopping centre or swan in front of a full length mirror at the hairdresser whilst holding a conversation with herself or asking you to take picture after picture of her, you just kind of know.
There are two things I know about this scenario.
One is that by being a blogger I might have created some kind of performance-loving monster who thrives on being videoed, photographed and documented every minute of her life
Or the second one is that I have a true performer on my hands and I should expand her extra-curricular activities beyond swimming to give my little bird some wings.
I’m thinking about doing swimming lessons on a seasonal basis just for two terms in the warmer months so that I have the time (and more importantly money) to send her to other classes in the remaining terms. There’s a gymnastic school up the road that I think she would just love. She’s always showing me new ‘cool tricks’ that she’s taught herself on the trampoline. Or enrol her in a dance class of some kind.
I’m a bit torn in between the two at the moment and I’m not sure which one she’d prefer to do. But whatever I choose I just get that very strong feeling that it might be a little bit closer to her life’s calling.
I could be wrong of course. It’s been known to happen. Alot. But I’ve just got a feeling.
I say let her try anything and everything! She sounds like a real little character. I love this age. Nick isn’t much of a performer (tho he has been known to sing the muppets really loudly) but he wants to do every sport known to man. Tennis, golf, soccer, mostly. I’ll let him have a go at them all, see if anything sticks.p.s. I love the pics of your girls with Floyd. So sweet.
I think your feeling is right … I have a feeling are incredibly clever and sensitive first borns are going to be truly amazing adults! I also love your gorgeous twirls in the fork of this space Z! Happy Friday my friend xxx
Do it! My niece in the UK is a little performer and has been going to a drama/dance class for the past few months (she’s just turned 4) and absolutely loves it! Great for confidence and, like you said, can really help them to spread their wings.
