New York planning has commenced. We are away for 12 days. But really once you take into account travel time we get about 9 days there. And then when you take into account BlogHer that’s about 6 days together. Which means the highly itinerary-loving husband has gone into full planning mode. Which is awesome. We make an excellent travelling pair for this very reason. We would totally win the Amazing Race. Not joking.
So far suggestions have been:
1. Some green lady we should see
2. The Brooklyn Bridge
3. Cupcakes Anyone? (The answer is yes, just in case you were wondering)
4. A Broadway Show
5. Guggenheim
And I am all ears for any other suggestions. In all honesty, I’m mostly excited about the eating. If that’s wrong, I don’t want to be right.
At this moment the OMG I have wanted to go to New York for what feels like my entire life is outweighing the Holy CRAP I am going to miss my babies. I keep smelling the baby’s neck as if I’m stocking up on it. But the excitement has the edge at this moment. I’m going to go with that.
so exciting and so so close! MOMA is pretty awesome…definitely going back there because we didn’t get to see any warhol last time
The yankees are in town over blogher so if you are keen to see a game the timing is perfect definitely some time lazing in central park, this time i want to take a picnic and a frisbee to sheep meadow and will be going running there too. the staten island ferry is a great way to see the green lady but it is cheaper (free) and quicker than doing the tourist thing over there, perfect to time that one with wall street, a ride on the bull and the WTC site and perhaps some (bargain designer) shopping at century 21, a soho shopping tour? you can hire bikes to ride around (including over the bridge)…do some research on fancy restaurants in if you want to eat in some, you may need to book before you go…I haven’t gotten that far yet. are you planning on going outlet shopping? so many things to see and experience. it is an amazing place. my number one piece of advice, if there is an empty subway car during busy times there is a very good reason why….looking forward to meeting you on the other side of the world! Tatum xx
Bagels. Best bagels on the planet in NY!
Oh my god yes!
do not feel bad about the food focus – i was born and raised in NYC and when i think about trips home i think about 2 things before family and friends – #1 food #2 filling up my empty suitcase with goodies to bring back to Oz – i am going home in Nov/Dec and so far have accounted for most of my eating hours (especially since i will be introducing my kids to everything from street vendors (you must eat a knish + a pretzel) to pizza places to chinese restaurants and on and on. You will have a blast
Make muppets at FAO Schwartz! That either makes me a super nerd or a super weirdo…. Lol
I say Ellis Island Migration museum. One of the most profoundly amazing places I went to. Don’t bother getting off at the statue of liberty, there’s heaps of photo ops on the ferry there then onto Ellis Island. Head to Veselka on 2nd Ave one night (pref late Fri/Sat) for awesome people watching..
If you get the chance go and see “The Book of Mormon” on Broadway by the guys who write Southpark, best show I have ever seen. Don’t go if you get easily offended by swearing or jokes about religion
Oh gosh, so many suggestions. I highly recommend doing the Ellis Island tour. There is a free one quarter past every hour at the far left corner of the hall (you’ll know what I mean when you get there). They don’t advertise it unless you ask and they take you to all the closed sections – it is totally fascinating!
You need to go to Eataly, Rickshaw Dumpling House, John’s Pizzeria, Gray’s Papaya plus so many other little eateries.
Oh my gosh, I am so jealous of all these people heading off to New York. It is my favourite place in the whole world – be prepared to miss it like you are missing a limb when you get back! Just soak it in, it is the best place ever! xx
AMAZING! You’re going to have such an incredible time. So excited for you!
definitely the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Central Park and Chinatown (it’s massive!!)
I second the Met Museum – it’s my happy place – also the MOMA is fantastic (and a hop, skip and a jump from the conference). There is so much good food it’s hard to narrow it down. I always grew up eating Patsy’s Pizza (there are a few around town) and I can get the names of some great places in Chinatown for you. For shopping, I always feel like these days I can get in LA everything in I once could only get in NY (obviously the same doesn’t apply for you) though I never miss Pearl River Mart on Broadway or ABC Carpet. And The Strand bookstore is my favorite place in the world. Absolute favorite. Feel free to email me and I can give you more info!
Central Park! If you ate meat I’d have all sorts of food suggestions. Do you eat seafood?
I am going too and taking the kids so our things are more kid orientated but thats fine with us. We are there 12 days also. Top of the Rock, 9/11 Memorial (well thats for us), Central Park Zoo, FAO Schwartaz, 2 baseball games, shopping, cupcakes, Brooklyn Bridge, Top of the Rock, M & Ms World and the list continues…. can’t wait!
Times Square, naturally. And the Empire State building. I would def find time for the Metropolitan Museum of Art as well as the Gugg if you can. American Museum of Natural History is awesome. And Central Park should be wandered if possible.
Whenever we go to NYC we always go to John’s Pizzeria! Best pizza ever! http://www.johnspizzerianyc.com/index3.htm. And then very close to that is Junior’s for cheesecake.
