Don’t Pretend

Sometimes the way people talk or the way they act is intensely disappointing.

Sometimes I just want to block all of that out.

And tell my children.

Don’t pretend to be less intelligent.

Don’t pretend to understand less than you do.

Not because it’s convenient. Or funny. Or easier. Or lets people off the hook.

Don’t pretend that people who accept that from you are worthwhile.

Don’t pretend that if you dumb yourself down, eventually you won’t have a hard time standing up.

  1. Such wise words! I think as I have grown older these are the kind of people that I have dropped out of my inner circle.

    • All so true Z. Hey, can you move closer to me please? I need to see you and hear this stuff in person more. And I reckon it’s so important my kids know this so I should be better at living it. Now if only I could do that with my in-laws….oh wait, that is why they aren’t talking to me! ;)
